Why Video Blog?

Why use video?

Because it is awesome in so many ways. Besides that…here are some statistics about online video:

  • Video marketing is 6 times more effective than regular marketing.
  • It gives you credibility, content, celebrity status, and circulation.
  • Video helps your site’s SEO and Google Ranking. It gives you a 53% better chance to get an organic first page link.
  • You can double your sales and conversion rates by using video on your sales page. 52% of people that watch a video will take action after watching it.
  • Video can lead to bigger and better things such as speaking gigs or book deals.

[The above facts were heard from Carrie Wilkerson, Shama Kabani, and backed up by other online marketers.]

use video Watching a minute of video is the equivalent of reading 1.8 million words – Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research

Here are some facts straight from the YouTube Press Page:

  • Over 4 billion videos are viewed a day
  • Over 800 million unique users visit YouTube each month
  • Over 3 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube
  • 100 million people take a social action on YouTube (likes, shares, comments, etc) every week
  • An auto-shared tweet results in 6 new youtube.com sessions on average, and we see more than 500 tweets per minute containing a YouTube link

camcorder in hands This Kansas City Business Directory listed some great videos statistics for businesses. Don’t think – I’m a blogger, not a business. You’re still selling something – even if it’s just your words in an RSS feed.

Don’t forget the human element of how people communicate:

  • 7% by words;
  • 55% by body language.

Video adds emotion that written text can not as easily convey.

We want people to remember us, right? People remember:

  • 10% of what they read;
  • 20% of what they hear;
  • 50% of what they read & hear

Once you learn the basics of video blogging you can quickly create content that can be used in many ways.

After all that I will add one caution. If your audience does not like to watch videos – don’t use video. There are not many audiences that way. Many times I have seen a blogger’s first video posted on their website. Even though it had low production quality the readers/watchers loved it! The feedback is usually about how they loved hearing the writer’s voice and how they look when they talk. And voila – a new vlogger is born. Then that blogger will know they should use video, look up how to video blog, and make another vlog. As they [or you!]  practice and vlog more they will improve.

  1. I think those are some really convincing statistics. The reason I think that your sales conversion is so much better is that it really does build credibility when you get in front of the camera…people realize there’s a real person behind the scenes….and it lets them get to know you more, building their trust.
