I started editing my video blogs with Windows Movie Maker. I moved on to another software, but when I got an HD camera I went back to Windows Live Movie Maker until I upgraded my software. [translation: saved by WLMM!] If you’re new to vlogging it’s good to start with free software. You will be able to get some experience and figure out what feature you want in any software you buy.
I recorded a screencast of editing a simple video. I’m new to screencasting so please don’t hold any mistakes against me. I’d rather record live video! There’s a part at the end where I clicked too fast and the screencast didn’t pick it up. It’s very important so I want to remind you of it.
As you are editing in Windows Live Movie Maker you should Save Project frequently. It is so-o frustrating to be almost done with lots of tricky editing when the computer crashes, the electric goes out, the toddler pulls the cord, etc. and it’s all gone. Take my word for it. I learned this the hard way. Frustrating! Save your project frequently!
Here’s the important part: When you are finished editing you must Save Movie. The project file can not be uploaded to a video host. You must go to the drop down in the top left corner, or the sharing section in the top middle, and “save movie.” That will create the finished movie that you can upload to a video host.
