Video Blogging Tip: Don’t Be Shy

Interview with Tonia from The Chatty Momma

I met Tonia because of the SheStreams Conference – online and in real life. She blogs and vlogs at The Chatty Momma. She happily shares a vlogging tip for you in the following video.

“Treat the camera as a friend” might be something you’ve heard before, but it’s a good reminder. Even though I’ve done about a thousand videos I freeze up occasionally, and thinking of the camera as a specific friend helps me to relax and be more comfortable.

What helps you be more comfortable on camera?

Video Blogging Consistently

Interview with Dr. Daisy Sutherland aka Dr. Mommy

Daisy and Jendi vloggingDr. Mommy’s presentation at SheStreams was encouraging and enabling to me. Not a lot of new information to me, but good reminders and confirmation of possibilities. She certainly lived up to her site’s tagline: “A place where busy women and mompreneurs unite to serve others.” I’ve watched her online from afar since 2008; I’ve seen her grow her business and use video well. In the following video she shares a tip to remember as you use video in your business.

Daisy Sutherland, aka Dr. Mommy, dispenses advice and encouragment every time she turns around. If you need some of that – and who doesn’t? – go check out Dr Mommy Online.com.

Video Blogging Naturally

Interview with Molly Gold from Go Mom Inc

Molly & Jendi When I started video blogging I had a bad habit of moving my head too much. I think I was trying to be animated and expressive, but it ended up looking weird. My husband pointed it out to me and just by being aware of it I was able to stop. It took me a bit to be natural on camera in my video blogs.

Why is it important to be comfortable and natural on camera? So your audience will feel the same. They will pick up on the feelings of nervousness, anxiety, etc. and not feel happy to watch your videos. You want them to feel happy to watch your video blog so that they will want to watch some more.

I think that Molly Gold of Go Mom Inc does a great job at being natural and showing her personality through her vlogs. If you get the chance to meet her in real life she will be just the same as in her videos. In this vlogging tip she shares a way for you to check if you are being yourself in your video blog.

We filmed this tip while we were both at SheStreams.  Another thing I love about Molly is that she is constantly striving to learn and improve her skills. So check GoMomInc today!

Video Blogging Compared To TV Recording

Interview with Elizabeth Esther

elizabeth estherAs I recorded video for The Relevant Conference this lady was the only one to say yes right away. She actually said yes before I explained the question! I was amazed! Most attendees I had to coax into doing a video, and give them time to think. Then I found out that Elizabeth Esther is used to doing her own video blogs as well as being on TV. When I heard that I decided to “interview” her. Enjoy! [cause I surely did]

Here’s a list of the tips we talked about:

  1. Sit up straight
  2. Don’t wiggle
  3. Apply lip gloss liberally
  4. Don’t overthink it
  5. Listen well when interviewing
  6. Look at each other when interviewing
  7. When talking to audience look directly into camera
  8. Do vlogs to help yourself become comfortable before going on TV ;)
  9. Try to keep to 2 min. or less [please excuse that this one is longer]
  10. Really be yourself [only copy Elizabeth Esther]
  11. It takes time to figure out your online presence; it’s ok to experiment

P.S. I picked that picture of Elizabeth Esther from her site because I think it makes her look like Judy Garland – a young Judy Garland, of course.

P.P.S. Next time we should totally sing Broadway tunes together!

Guest Video of Vlogging Tips

This is Wendy from Babies Gotta Have It.  I first saw her videos on Newbaby when Kate couldn’t even sit up.  I still like watching her even though I have no use for diaper bags or strollers. LOL  She’s just fun to watch and, okay, I admit I love her curly hair.

I think she should have starred in the movie Motherhood instead of Uma Thurman, because Wendy actually is a SAHM in New York.  Other than that, I don’t know if it resembles her life or not.

Anyhow – Wendy’s videos are always lit nice and easy to understand with a bit of humor thrown in. She’s a good vlogger to imitate.

P.S. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a year’s worth of hosting. You have until Aug 24, 2009.
