Rules For Vlogging

student_handbookI’ve searched high and low and come to this conclusion. There are no rules for vlogging. It’s just like blogging.  You do it the way you want.

Some people like “talking head” vlogs where only the person’s head is visible from their webcam. Others like to video things around them and just let their voice be heard and not seen. Some people make still pictures into slide shows for their version of a vlog. There are ladies that do their make up and hair before recording and others that think it’s not real unless they record themselves right out of bed in the morning. Some watchers devour how-to videos, others like lots of talking, and others like to watch kids.

The great thing is that there is an audience for whatever kind of vlog you want to make.

However I have to say that there are some things that will grow your audience.

  1. 1. Consistency so your audience knows what to expect
  2. 2. Clear speech so you can be heard and understood
  3. 3. Decent lighting so you can be seen

The rest is subjective to what kind of audience you want.  Of course, if you don’t want to grow your audience don’t worry about it.  If you do want to grow your audience look for a leader with vlogs you like and study what they do. Learn how and do it yourself. You’ll be well on your way to having some great vlogs.
