Review of Magix Video Editing Software

A while ago I was contacted by Magix software. Of course I was interested in trying another video editing software. But when I sat down to try the Movie Edit Pro 16 there was a steep learning curve and I was out of time. I knew what it should be capable of, but couldn’t figure out how to make it do it! So I closed it, and went back to my familiar software.

Months later, the nice people at Magix contacted me again. I humbly confessed that I had not posted a review because I got frustrated with trying to learn the new software. They very graciously said that it was no problem and was I interested in checking out their free slideshow maker. With a nice dialogue like that how could I refuse?

I needed to make some slideshows for a client so I turned to that option first. The free slideshow maker reminds me of the other online options like animoto, one true media, slide.com and others. It’s fun, but didn’t have what I needed for 2 audio tracks, pictures, and titles.

I decided to try the video editing software again – partly because they were so nice. I got farther that time and started being intrigued. What all could it do?

  • I can have as many tracks as I want; and it’s easy to mute or lock them.
  • There are lots of pre-set titles to choose from, and the capability to adjust them to my preference.
  • Right click on most things for even more options.
  • It works quickly and has a lot of options for exporting.
  • The animated titles are awesome.
  • The chroma key [green screen] was not hard to use.

I have to mention that my husband and I were impressed with the audio part of the software. We got better sound quality through the Magix audio recording than through Audacity. There’s also an audio editing pop-out feature that makes editing the audio a breeze.

I’ve used it for the slideshows and have been pleased with the results. I started editing video on it and have run up against some more frustrations; but each time I go back in I learn a little bit more. I figure out one feature and start looking for the next. Each time I do figure out one it seems to open up more options.

My overall opinion of it is that it’s a good video editing software with a large learning curve. I’ll keep going back to it for a while because I keep finding more features!
